It’s a good thing I didn’t get my hopes up about this IUI cycle, because it’s been canceled.
I went in for a sonogram today and they found 5-6 mature follicles, which would put me at too high of a risk for multiples.
The doctor wasn’t in this morning when we went in, but he called me himself right before lunch to tell me. He also gave us the option to try on our own, but that was followed up by “are you open to selective reduction?”
No.
$500 and a week of shots down the drain for absolutely nothing – not even a chance.
What a waste.

Argh. So frustrating. Not just having to sit one out, but the waste of money. The risk of multiples hasn’t happened to me yet, because I haven’t graduated to injectables, but I know what I would think: “There’s really a risk when I haven’t been able to get one egg fertilized and implanted all this time? What would make my body suddenly decide to give up some room for three?”
That really sucks. I’m terrified of that happening to me, since I start injectables next cycle.
I am so sorry for this canceled cycle. I had two cycles canceled in the past (one IUI and one IVF). They were the worst, it was like all hope got yanked out from under me. Hang in there and keep us posted on your next step.

I’m so sorry! That really stinks! Sounds like you have some great eggs growing that you very well could ovulate on your own, then maybe you can try the old fashion way this cycle and catch one or two of those eggs! With all those eggs, it would definitely give the sperm more targets to hit! 😉 Wishing you all the best!
